Trick to change the email address associated with your Twinkly account
Applies to Twinkly Generation I and Generation II devices and Twinkly Plus
Currently, our system does not allow directly changing the email address linked to an existing Twinkly account. However, we’ve found a solution to help you switch to your preferred email. 😊 Here’s how to proceed:
Solution 1: Transfer Account Ownership
-
Create a new account: Sign up for a new Twinkly account using the email address you'd like to use.
-
Log in to your old account: Use your existing credentials to log into the app with your old account.
-
Invite the new account for sharing: For each installation, go to the gear icon in the settings, invite the new account, and assign the Installer role during the invitation process.
-
Log in with the new account: Use the new email account you just created to log in.
-
Accept the shared installations: Accept the shared installation requests from your old account.
-
Verify installation access: Confirm that your new account has access to all shared installations.
-
Log in again with the old account: Return to the old account.
-
Transfer ownership: For each installation, go to the gear icon, select the new user from the dropdown menu, and choose “Transfer Ownership”. This will make the new user the absolute owner of the installations.
-
Delete the old account: After transferring ownership, go to the app settings from the controls page and proceed with deleting the old account. (For more details on how to delete an account, click here).
-
Log in with the new account: Once the deletion is complete, log in with your new account, and you will have successfully transferred everything to your new email.
This method ensures that you will not lose any of your layouts or device settings.
Solution 2: Register Devices to a New Account
Alternatively, if you'd like to start fresh with your new email address, you can follow these steps:
-
Create a new Twinkly account: Sign up with your preferred email address.
-
Remove devices from the old account: Before registering devices on the new account, you need to remove them from the old account. This step is important as your custom layouts can only be used on one account at a time. (For more details on how to remove devices, click here).
-
Register devices on the new account: After removing the devices from the old account, you can register them with your new account.
Important Note:
If you choose to register devices directly to the new account, you’ll need to reset them first before adding them again. (For more details on how to reset your devices, click here). Keep in mind that this method will require you to go through the onboarding process again and remap all your devices.
Following these steps will help you successfully update your account's email address while preserving your device settings and layouts.
