Troubleshooting the most common timer issues and how to get your Twinkly devices back on schedule.
This article refers to Twinkly Generation I & II
Are you having trouble setting the timer for your Twinkly devices? There are three common situations that could be causing the issue. Let’s take a look at each one.
1. I can’t set the timer
To set the timer, you must be connected to the local network — in other words, you can only set the timer when your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network where your Twinkly devices are located.
Your devices must be accessible locally, which you can check by looking at their status dot in the app. A solid green dot means that the device is connected locally and ready to be configured.
Once you see the green status dot:
- Go to Controls.
- Enable the Timer.
- Set your preferred ON and OFF times.
Important: Wait a few seconds before closing the app or navigating to another section. This gives your devices enough time to register and save the new schedule.
2. My devices turn on and off at random times
Do you have a smart home assistant such as Alexa, Google Home, or Home Assistant connected to your Twinkly devices?
You may have previously created a schedule or routine through one of these platforms.
Check your smart home assistants and delete any existing timers or routines that could be controlling your devices.
Then:
- Open the Twinkly app.
- Go to Controls.
- Enable the Timer and set your preferred ON and OFF times.
- Wait a few seconds before closing the app or navigating away, so the devices can update to the new schedule.
3. I need to set more than one timer
At the moment, the Twinkly app allows you to set only one timer at a time.
However, if you need multiple schedules, you can use a workaround through compatible smart home assistants. Check this guide to learn how to set up additional schedules.
One last thing to remember
For the timer to work, your Twinkly devices must remain powered on. If the devices are switched off or disconnected from power, the scheduled timer cannot trigger them.
