Step-by-step guide to mapping Twinkly Squares panels
Applies to Twinkly Squares.
It's required mapping the installation after setting it up on the App.
Remember to redo the Mapping procedure each time you add one or more tiles to your installation.
When Should I Map Squares?
Unlike other Twinkly products where you can map your lights later, it's essential to map your Squares during the setup:
- This helps the Twinkly App recognise the number of LEDs in your Squares arrangement.
- It allows you to create personalised effects using FX-Wizard.
- It enables you to upload pixel art and GIFs.
What Mapping Modes Are Available for Twinkly Squares?
When using Twinkly Squares, or a group made only of Squares panels, the Mapping options are a bit different compared to other Twinkly devices. As shown in the image below, you can choose between Straight Pixel Art or arrange the Squares in more creative layouts, like a rhombus or other freeform shapes. This gives you flexibility in mapping the panels while still achieving impressive effects.

What is the Pixel Art Squares Mapping Feature?
Squares lets you create and upload unique pixel art and GIFs.
Just a heads up, if you create a group of Twinkly lights that includes other Twinkly RGB and RGB +W devices, the pixel art feature will be turned off.
How Does the Squares Mapping Procedure Work?
Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to mapping your Twinkly Squares:
- Start the mapping process.
- Keep your phone or tablet steady, avoiding bright lights or reflections, and point it at the entire setup.
- When the process begins, some Squares pixels will flash red, green, and blue.
- Once mapping is finished, your LEDs will turn white.
- If you’re pleased with the results, simply select OK.
Your Squares are now ready for colours, animations, pixel art, and GIFs.
Important Notice for Grouping Twinkly Squares with Other Devices
If you’re using a group of Twinkly devices that includes Squares along with other products—like Flex, Strings, or others—the specific Mapping flow for Squares won't be available. Instead, you will have access to the standard Mapping options, including Simple and 3-Dimensional Mapping.
