How the Twinkly Effect Sharing System Works

We’re excited to introduce a brand-new feature in the Twinkly app: Effect Sharing , a powerful and innovative tool that brings creativity to life by making it more collaborative and connected than ever.
Thanks to this feature, all Twinkly’s most creative users can now easily share their custom lighting effects with friends, family, or fellow light lovers around the world.
What kinds of effects can be shared?
Here’s a list of effect types that can be shared:
- Default effects that have been edited and customized
- Personal effects created using the FX Wizard
- GIFs downloaded from GIPHY or imported (these can be shared even if they are not editable)
Effects You Cannot Share:
- Preset effects & downloaded effects that have not been edited
- Effects created in Drawing mode
How does sharing work?
Sharing an effect is quick and easy:
- Open the effect you want to share, either from your saved collection or right after creating it in FX Wizard.
- Tap the "Share" button.
- A new screen will appear where you can generate a unique sharing link.
- Copy the link and send it via email, text, or on social media, your choice!
What happens when someone receives the link?
When the recipient opens your link:
- If they have the Twinkly app installed and are logged in, the link will open directly in the app . For users who don’t have the app installed, the link will provide instructions to download it.
- They’ll see a static preview of the effect.
- They can accept or decline the shared effect.
- If accepted, the effect will be downloaded and appear in their "Downloaded" section.
- If they already have the effect, the app will prompt them to view it and take them directly to the section of the Gallery where that effect is located.
How can I stop sharing an effect?
The link stays active until you choose to disable it. Once you stop sharing:
- The link becomes immediately inactive.
- No one else will be able to access or download the effect.
To stop sharing:
- Open the shared effect.
- Tap the "Stop Sharing" icon.
- Confirm your choice.
Things to keep in mind
- If you edit a shared effect after the link is generated, anyone opening the link after you have edited it will receive the most updated version.
- However, users who have already downloaded the effect will continue to see the original version.
- An effect that has already been downloaded and later edited by the creator will not update automatically.
To get the updated version, you must first delete the original effect from your gallery, then click the link again to download the latest version.
Twinkly does not overwrite or delete downloaded effects , they remain part of each user's personal effect library.
