List of settings your local Wi-FI Router should have to achieve perfect performances with your Twinkly devices

General Wi-Fi Connectivity
Network Setup Recommendations for Twinkly Devices
-
Place your Twinkly devices close to your Wi-Fi router for the best network stability and performance.
-
If your network is crowded or you want to connect more than 10 Twinkly devices, consider setting up a dedicated router for your Twinkly devices.
-
The Wi-Fi network name (SSID) must not exceed 31 characters to ensure proper connectivity.

App Permissions
To work correctly, the Twinkly app requires permission to access your local network and other services.
For iOS:
-
Open Settings
-
Select Twinkly App
-
Enable access to:
-
Bluetooth
-
Local Network
-
Camera (required for Mapping)
-
For Android:
-
Open Settings
-
Navigate to Apps → All Apps or Manage Apps
-
Select Twinkly
-
Grant permissions for:
-
Camera
-
Location
-
Files and Media
-
Microphone
-
-
Ensure Mobile Data and Wi-Fi access are enabled in the app settings.
Note: On Android, the exact menu path may vary slightly depending on your device model.
Security Protocols
Twinkly connections use the WPA2-PSK (AES) security protocol, which is widely supported and considered secure. This is typically the default on most routers.
Network Compatibility
-
Twinkly works only with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks.
-
If you have a dual-band router, either:
-
Disable the 5 GHz band temporarily, or
-
Separate the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands into different SSIDs to ensure Twinkly connects to the 2.4 GHz network.
-
Unsupported Networks
Twinkly will not work with:
-
Hidden networks, since Twinkly needs to detect the network to connect.
-
Guest networks, because these often have AP isolation, preventing devices from communicating with each other.
Router Ports to Open
Ensure the following ports are open on your router for proper Twinkly functionality:
| Protocol | Port(s) | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| TCP | 80 | General communication |
| UDP | 5555, 5556, 7777 | Device communication |
| TCP | 1883, 8883 | Voice assistants support |
