List of settings your local Wi-FI Router should have to achieve perfect performances with your Twinkly devices
Applies to Twinkly Generation I and Generation II devices.
General Wi-Fi connectivity
We always recommend that your devices be set up as close as possible to your Wi-Fi router for the best network stability.
If you have a particularly crowded network or want to connect more than 10 Twinkly devices, we recommend setting up a specific router for your devices. Learn more about setting up large groups of Twinkly devices here.
Also keep in mind that the name of your wi-fi network must not exceed 31 characters.
Here's how to do it:
iOS - Settings menu - select Twinkly App - enable access to Bluetooth, Local network and Camera (Mapping)
Android -Settings = Apps = All Apps or Manage Apps = Twinkly = Permission camera, location, files and media, microphone)
Settings = Apps = All Apps or Manage Apps = Twinkly = Mobile Data (mobile data, wifi)
(On Android the procedure may slightly change depending on the smartphone/tablet model)
What security protocols does Twinkly use?
Twinkly connections use the most common and secure protocol, WPA2-PSK (AES), which is normally the default one on most routers.
What type of network connection does Twinkly work with?
Like many smart devices, Twinkly only works with 2.4GHz band connections. If you have a dual-band router, try turning off the 5 GHz band, or split the two frequencies into two different SSIDs to ensure that Twinkly is on the 2.4 band.
Twinkly doesn’t work with the following networks:
-
hidden networks, as it needs to see a network to connect to it
-
guest networks, as these networks feature AP isolation (where users/devices are isolated from each other on a wireless network to improve network security).
Which router ports need to be open?
Make sure the following ports are open:
-
TCP 80
-
UDP 5555
-
UDP 5556
-
UDP 7777
-
TCP 1883/8883 (voice assistants).
