Guided procedure to edit a preloaded effect on your Gallery
This article refers to Twinkly Generation I & II, Twinkly PRO and Twinkly Plus
The effects in the Twinkly gallery can be edited according to your taste and creativity, and here’s where all the fun lies!
What’s new from App v3.24.0 (Effect management)?
Good news — your effects are now safer than ever.
All the affects you create, download, or customize are securely linked to your Twinkly account. That means:
- You won’t lose them if you log out, switch phones, or reinstall the app.
- Only the deleted effects will no longer be available.
- Previews are now consistent — as long as you're connected when applying an effect, you’ll always see an accurate preview.
And there’s more: you can now share your personal effects with other Twinkly users — including any preset effects you’ve tweaked and saved as your own versions
How do I edit an effect
For each product, there are different default variations and parameters you can edit.

Choose the Twinkly product or group of products you want to apply the effect to, by selecting it at the top of the gallery.

Select an effect and preview it.

Click 'Edit' to start. The app will show you all the options available for that effect.
Editing options
The first option changes according to the chosen product and effect.
You can edit the number of colored stripes, their width, or their speed.
The third option is usually related to the color: select a pre-set variation or select your favorites.
Editing Colors
Not finding the right color? Create yours! Choose the perfect shade from 16 million colors by clicking on the icon “+”
Moving your finger on the color sliders, you’ll be able to create your perfect mix and save the color among the existing ones, ready to be applied to your effect.
Now you can name your new creation and save it into your Gallery!
Please be aware that editing functionalities are not accessible for the default Pixel Art effects. These particular effects are designed with specific layouts in mind and are primarily intended for use with Squares installations. This means that their application is limited, and they may not be suitable for all types of projects or designs.
If you are interested in incorporating a GIF effect that can be customised to better suit your layout, we recommend that you first download the desired GIF from the internet. Once you have the GIF file, you can easily import it into your project using the GIF importer tool. This will allow you to have more flexibility and control over how the effect appears in your design, ensuring that it aligns perfectly with your overall aesthetic and functional requirements.
Editing Options by Effect Type
When you open an effect for streaming, the available editing options vary depending on the type of effect:

GIFs, videos, and other media:
Preset effects allow you to choose between Auto and Repeat playback modes. If you import personal media through the FX Wizard, you can also adjust how the content fits the layout using options like FIT, COVER, and RESIZE. -
Base JavaScript (JS) effects:
These effects cannot be opened or edited within the Wizard. However, you can still adjust basic settings such as color combinations and playback speed. -
Ambience and Wizard effects:
These open directly in the FX Wizard, allowing full customization using all available tools. -
Wizard-created effects:
Effects you have built using the FX Wizard can be reopened, edited, and personalized at any time with the full set of customization features.
Share Your Edited Effects with Others!
Once you've edited and saved an effect, you can share it with other Twinkly users using our new Sharing feature!
