What are the requirements for powering Twinkly Squares
Applies to Twinkly Squares
What’s included in the box?
The official Twinkly power supply is included only in the 5+1 kit — that means the kit containing 5 Extension tiles and 1 Master tile (which includes the controller).
If you purchase a single Master panel or a 3-Extension tile kit, the power supply is not included, but it can be purchased separately on the Twinkly website.
If you don’t find the power supply available on our website, please contact our support team using the “Submit a Request” form located at the top right corner of the page.
How to power Twinkly Squares correctly
You can configure up to 16 Squares tiles per setup.
Each configuration must include 1 Master tile (which contains the controller). Here’s how the power logic works:
-
If you're only using the Master tile, it requires just 5V — you can connect it to a USB-C port on your computer or a mobile phone charger.
-
As soon as you add even 1 Extension tile, a higher-capacity power supply is required.
-
The official Twinkly power supply is rated at 20V 3.25A / 65W PD 2.0 and is designed to support up to 16 tiles per Master.
🔁 If you plan to connect more than 16 tiles, you’ll need to split your setup into multiple groups — each with its own Master and power supply.

Using a third-party power supply
Prefer to use your own power adapter? That’s totally fine — just make sure it meets these specs:
-
USB Power Delivery (PD) 2.0
-
Provides 20V and 3.25A
-
Minimum power output: 65W
If your power supply offers more than 3.25A, that’s okay — Twinkly Squares will only draw the current it needs based on how many tiles are connected.
Please note that we strongly recommend using our official Twinkly power supply, keeping in mind that the only validated and fully supported model is the Twinkly-branded one.
Troubleshooting
Why is there a red pixel on my tile?
If you see a single red pixel in the center of a Square tile, this means the setup is underpowered.
To fix it:
Make sure you're using the correct power supply — we recommend the official 20V 3.25A / 65W Power Delivery adapter designed specifically for Twinkly Squares.
Connecting the Master tile using a compatible and sufficiently powerful adapter usually resolves the issue.
Why isn’t my device turning on?
If Squares won’t turn on at all, the side LED blinks red, and the front LEDs stay off, here are three possible causes to check:
-
Power supply issue
Try unplugging all the Extension tiles and connect only the Master tile via USB-C to a phone charger or your computer. If the device powers on, the issue is likely the original power adapter. -
USB-C cable issue
The cable might be faulty or incorrectly connected. Try flipping the cable, or use another USB-C cable — make sure it's a certified MFI (Made for iPhone/iPad) or high-quality cable. -
Master tile issue
If changing the power source and cable doesn't help, the issue may be with the Master tile itself. Try replacing the power setup first to confirm it's not a power-related issue.
