Is Alexa having trouble finding or controlling your Twinkly lights?
Don’t worry — follow this guide to troubleshoot the issue and bring the magic back!
This article refers to Twinkly Generation I & II, Twinkly Plus and Lightwall powered by Twinkly, Twinkly PRO Wi-Fi controller
Let’s start with the basics
1. Before diving into fixes, here’s a quick checklist to make sure everything is ready:
- Your Twinkly device is set up and connected to a Wi-Fi network with internet access
(Using a router without internet? Alexa won’t be able to connect!) - You’re running the latest firmware
- Both your smartphone and Twinkly device have internet access
- You know your Twinkly login credentials

2. Remove and re-add the Twinkly skill in Alexa
A fresh start often clears things up:
- Open the Alexa app
- Tap Devices, find your Twinkly light
- Tap the three dots > Gear icon > Trash icon (🗑️)
- Go toMore > Skills & Games
- Search for “Twinkly”, tap it, and choose Disable Skill
- Then tap Enable, and log in with your Twinkly credentials
3. Restart your devices
It’s simple but often effective:
- Unplug your Twinkly controller
- Wait 10 seconds
- Plug it back in and wait for the lights to fully reconnect
4. Re-link Alexa in the Twinkly app
This ensures Alexa has the right permissions:
- Open the Twinkly app
- Go to Settings > Alexa Account Linking
- Tap Disconnect
- Fully close both the Alexa and Twinkly apps
- Reopen Twinkly and re-link your Alexa account
5. Getting the “Please try again later” error?
This is often caused by incorrect login credentials — even if they seem right.
Instead of logging out (and possibly getting stuck if you forgot your password), we recommend:
- Tap Forgot Password in the login screen of the Alexa skill
- Reset your password
- Then try enabling the Twinkly skill again with your updated credentials
This is one of the most common fixes — worth trying even if you're sure your password is correct!
6. Still not working?
Here are a few advanced checks:
- Make sure your Twinkly firmware is updated ➝ Retail Firmware Update Guide
➝ Firmware for Twinkly Plus and Lightwall - Try connecting to a different 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
(Alexa does not work on 5GHz-only networks) - Avoid using VPNs or network firewalls that may block Alexa
Check that port 8883 is open — this is required for smart assistant communication
